Rugby Field Size and Player Positions
A rugby field, also known as a pitch, is typically 100 meters long and 70 meters wide, with a minimum size of 94x68 meters. The field has several key markings, including :
- Try Line: Where tries are scored
- Dead Ball Line: Marks the end of the playing area
- 22-Meter Lines: Defensive areas
- Halfway Line: Divides the field into two halves
- Touchlines: Boundary lines of the field
Player Positions
Each team has 15 players on the field, divided into two groups :
- Forwards (Pack): Jersey numbers 1-8, typically larger and more physical players
- Props: Numbers 1 and 3, support the hooker in scrums
- Hooker: Number 2, responsible for hooking the ball in scrums
- Locks: Numbers 4 and 5, tall and physical players who win lineout ball
- Flankers: Numbers 6 and 7, fast and agile players who support the scrum
- Number 8: Number 8, a physical player who controls the ball at the back of the scrum
- Backs: Jersey numbers 9-15, typically faster and more agile players
- Scrum-half: Number 9, feeds the scrum and distributes the ball
- Fly-half: Number 10, directs the backline and makes tactical decisions
- Centers: Numbers 12 and 13, create attacking opportunities
-Wings: Numbers 11 and 14, fast players who score tries
-Full-back: Number 15, covers the backfield and launches counter-attacks
Rules of the Game
Some key rules to know:
-Game Duration: 80 minutes, divided into two 40-minute halves
- Scoring: Tries (5 points), conversions (2 points), penalties (3 points), and drop goals (3 points)
-Gameplay: Players can run with the ball, pass to teammates, or kick the ball through the opponent's goalposts
- Scrums: Formed after minor infractions, where players bind together and push against each other
-Lineouts: Formed after the ball goes out of bounds, where players from both teams line up and try to catch a thrown-in ball
